(a) Continuous availability of drinking water despite failure of monsoons. As a result of animal health care activities undertaken, the following benefits have directly accrued to the community:- (a) Despite drought years, the mortality rate has been practically kept
at zero percent. In agriculture field, farmers have been motivated to adopt value added agriculture practices like horticulture with drip irrigation. The community, as a whole, has realized the value of regeneration of pasture land. Introduction of cooperative dairy has improved participation of women in developmental activities. Constitution of Women’s SHGs has laid down the foundation for improving their economic status. Women have also visibly improved their skills in cutting and tailoring, soap and detergent making, vaseline and candle making and paper bag making. Volunteers have been capacitated to improve their livelihood practices through training in trades like electric house wiring, motor rewinding etc. Selected needy and disabled people have been afforded an opportunity to make an honourable living by providing them flour mills and sewing machines. The concept of farm poultry introduced amongst the poor and landless has afforded them livelihood. An effective organisational structure at village & cluster level ( a federal structure), based on democratic values and involvement of the entire community has come into existence which maintains harmonious working relations with the Panchayati Raj institutions so as to obtain coordinated rural development. The community sees the Project as a successful model for improving their livelihood which has also motivated the adjoining villages to seek their inclusion in the Project activities. It is imperative that we ascertain the results obtained through various interventions carried out and benefits accruing from them. The Trust had requested the State Remote Sensing Application Centre, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of Rajasthan to carry out an impact evaluation of the project area through satellite imaging to be carried out during the months of December/January between the years 2001 to 2004. Their study shows that there is “prominent increase” in intensity of vegetation cover in areas adjoining the anicuts and in other areas the vegetation cover has also “increased”. The Trust, with support from Sir Ratan Tata Trust, requisitioned the Institute of Development Studies, Jaipur, to conduct a physical survey and submit the Impact Evaluation Report. The Institute of Development Studies carried out physical survey of the Project area during the period December 05 to February 06 and submitted their report giving useful recommendations.
