The green revolution in India was achieved through agricultural activities in irrigated lands. The yield in these regions have been optimized subject to further research and upgradation of agricultural technologies. The future growth of agriculture production must increasingly come from dry land regions which constitutes about 2/3rd of India’s cultivated land. Improved and modernized agriculture management ensuring higher level of productivity through better agronomic practices and inputs is essential to augment agriculture production so as to sustain livelihood of the people. Project Sahyog has introduced horticulture using drip irrigation and introduced livelihood security through diversified agricultural practices.
To demonstrate proper use of inputs and adopt modern agricultural technology, 42 rabi crop demonstrations and 13 kharif crop demonstrations were organised. The total expenditure incurred on this activity is Rs. 1,12,625/- out of which 50% has been contributed by the community. As a result of ground water recharging and better agronomic and inputs introduced in areas irrigated by wells and tube wells, rabi and kharif production has indicated an increase in yield by 10 to 15% respectively.

To demonstrate higher outputs through horticulture, four ber orchards and three lemon orchards measuing 0.6 hectares each are being developed. Drip irrigation system has been installed in three ber orchards. Total expenditure incurred on this line item is Rs. 1,11,673/- out of which 65% has come through community contribution and other sources. It is estimated that after development period of about three years, 0.6 hectare orchard has a potential of generating a net income of Rs. 40,000/- per annum.

As an alternative source of agriculture income, 750 khumbat (Acacia senagal) trees have been injected with gum producing injections developed by CAZRI. Gum production is an additional source of income specially for unemployed and BPL families. The entire cost of injections amounting to Rs. 7,500/- has been contributed by the beneficiary community. This activity has gained momentum, as the economic gains are much higher as compared to the inputs and labour involved. This activity will be sustained by the Gram Vikas Samiti.
